The Contra Costa County Probation Department is a partner with the Bay Point Partnership and DMC Community Workgroup in the effort to reduce the over-representation of youth of color in the justice system. 

Contra Costa County's Probation Department offers a variety of services and programs that are designed to support public safety by restoring losses to victims of crime, holding youth accountable for their actions, and developing opportunities for individuals who are on probation.  The Probation Department, under the leadership of Chief Probation Officer Lionel Chatman, offers a series of interventions that are available to Bay Point youth.

Custodial Care

Contact: 

The Probation Department offers a continuum of court-ordered custodial care and treatment services for youth. These include:

Juvenile Hall

Juvenile Hall provides mandated detention for minors.]

Orin Allen Youth Rehabilitation Facility (Byron Boys Ranch)

OAYRF provides 100 beds for seriously delinquent young men.

Weekend Work

Weekend work teaches youth to accept personal responsibility and "repay" society through uncompensated community service work, as an alternative to detention.

The Probation Department also provides court-ordered custodial care ourside of County facilites and medical care for juvenile residents within County facilities. These services include, but are not limited to the following:

Chris Adams Girls' Treatment Program:

Probation provides residential and mental health day treatment, and aftercare services for at-risk girls. This program is a collaborative effort between the Probation Department, Health Services-Mental Health, and county schools.

 

Home Supervision:

Probation provides Home Supervision, which is an intensive surveillance, including daily contacts with a counselor and Electronic Monitoring. in lieu of Juvenile Hall detention.  This service is estimated to alleviate 60,000 custody days per year.

The Probation Department also provides Juvenile Field Services for youth. The Probation Department supervises approximately 1,600 youth on probation, providing individualized controls, counseling, supervision, placement, and referral services to minor and their parents. Serivces are provided for detained youth, youth in the community, and youth in residential treatment programs.  Specific programs and services include, but are not limited to the following:

 

Juvenile Administration

This aspect of Probation services provides general oversight and planning for juvenile probation services.

Service Integration Team:

The Probation Department offers a multi-agency center that provides case management, early intervention and prevention services, family assessment and community linkages services to client families from single locations in the communities of Richmond and Bay Point.

 

Juvenile Drug Court

Youth who have been convicted of drug-related offenses are ordered to therapeutic programs by the Court; after which they report back to the Court regarding their progress  in treatment. Probation staff provide intensive supervision and drug testing.

Mentally Ill Offender Crime Reduction Program

This service is a cooperative prgogram between the Mental Health and Probation departments that enhances treatment of mentally ill offenders in liey of incarceration.
