Disproportionate Minority Contact is the over- representation of youth of color along the juvenile justice continuum (from arrest to sentencing and placement) relative to their numbers in the general population. DMC is not caused by a single factor; rather, it is the result of various factors that increase the vulnerability of youth of color to disproportionate contact with the juvenile justice system. Research has identified several underlying causes and correlates to DMC, including socioeconomic conditions; educational factors; personal, family, community and societal factors; and juvenile justice system factors.

Since 2006, a number of community-based agencies, health professionals, youth advocates, and community members have been meeting to discuss how they can help reduce DMC and provide healthy alternatives for youth living in Bay Point.

Using This Site

This site is arranged to provide a list of community-based services for youth located in or serving Bay Point youth.  Included in this website are resources for programs in the following areas:

  • Prevention
  • Early Intervention
  • Intensive Intervention
  • Probation
  • Other Resources

The greatest strategy for reducing the over-representation of youth of color in the justice system is to ensure that there are enough community resources to support their healthy development--from childcare and education through intensive intervention and aftercare.
